ADULT DEPENDENT CHILDREN

Mr. Zelman recently tried a divorce modification case in Orange County Circuit court where he successfully argued that an 18 year old child (who otherwise would be emancipated and not subject to ongoing child support), remained dependant for which a child support obligation should continue into adulthood as result of her type 1 diabetic medical condition. Mr. Zelman had argued that due to extensive medical and insurance expenses which the child (who was in college) could not yet afford, the custodial parent should be entitled to ongoing child support to offset these expenses.
